Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to Welcome Dennis Quaid as Distinguished Honoree

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 9 AM, the 国產aⅴa麻豆community will gather at Alumni Park on the Malibu campus for a remembrance ceremony honoring the lives lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon 24 years ago. The will be a time to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and ensure that the examples of compassion, bravery, and solidarity demonstrated across the country in the following days and months remain at the forefront of our collective consciousness.

This year the University will welcome actor Dennis Quaid to the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, who will serve as the distinguished honoree. The ceremony will also feature remarks from chancellor Sara Young Jackson (鈥74) and reflections and readings by other members of the 国產aⅴa麻豆community. 

Attendees are invited to walk through the Waves of Flags display, which features nearly 3,000 flags representing each innocent victim, including a national flag for each foreign country that lost a citizen in the attack, prior to or following the ceremony to pay tribute to the lives lost with prayer and reflection. All attendees as well as members of the public are also invited to visit the Reflection Station to write messages of reflection and remembrance on the provided cards and attach them to any flagpole.

Dennis Quaid is an Emmy Award鈥揳nd two-time Golden Globe鈥揷elebrated actor whose unprecedented career spans more than 50 years, more than 80 films, and more than 20 television projects. Quaid鈥檚 many credits in widely diverse, globally beloved films include The Parent Trap, The Rookie, The Day After Tomorrow, Traffic, Vantage Point, Frequency, Soul Surfer, The Right Stuff, Breaking Away, A Dog鈥檚 Purpose, and I Can Only Imagine, as well as standout roles in TV series and limited series such as Paramount+鈥檚 Lawmen: Bass Reeves and the HBO MAX miniseries Full Circle

Quaid and his wife, Laura (鈥14), founded the production company, Bonniedale Films, marking their entry into film production. Their first film, The Long Game, is a critically acclaimed sports drama that won the Audience Award at the 2023 SXSW Film & TV Festival. In 2024 he starred alongside Demi Moore in the Academy Award鈥揳nd Golden Globe鈥搉ominated film, The Substance, and as the 40th president in the long-awaited biopic, Reagan. This year Quaid is costarring in the critically acclaimed films Sovereign and Broke, as well as the Paramount+ series Happy Face. Alongside his acting career, Quaid is also a respected singer-songwriter, with hundreds of thousands of miles under his belt as a recording and touring musician who鈥檚 been playing music since his grandfather bought him his first guitar. His multi-week number one inspirational album, Fallen: A Gospel Record for Sinners, was released in 2023 via Gaither Music Group.

Quaid is passionate about supporting veterans, first responders, and those who make the ultimate sacrifice. Throughout his career, he鈥檚 supported numerous nonprofit organizations, including Helping A Hero, which provides homes to veterans; K9s for Warriors, which places service dogs with veterans who have invisible wounds; and Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which recently honored Quaid with the 鈥淟et Us Do Good鈥 Award. Last year Quaid supported a group of WWII veterans to make a historic trip to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
